The 2nd annual Boston Sports Fans Choice Awards Show showcased
the 2006-2007 sports season. Sports legends, team accomplishments
and memorable moments from this year's Boston sports scene were
highlighted.
We recognized and honored those athletes who have gone above and
beyond the call of duty by giving back to the community and causes
close to their hearts. These athletes who are strong role models
to our children, and who give unselfishly of themselves to those
in need, were honored with the WZLX "The Hometown Hero"
award. This year's recipients included:
Bruins: Zdeno Chara
Patriots: Ty Warren
Revolution: Jay Heaps
Young up and coming players demonstrating skills and promising
futures were nominated for this year's 2007 Rising Star Award.
Nominees included:
Bruins Phil Kessel
Celtics Rajon Rondo
Patriots Stephen Gostkowski
Red Sox Dustin Pedroia
Revolution Adam Cristman
This year we had a tie for Rising Star with awards being presented
to both: Patriots; Stephen Gostkowski and Red Sox player; Dustin
Pedroia.
Athletes nominated by fans and local sports media for Most Valuable
Player went head to head with their peers for this dubious honor.
The field of nominees included:
Bruins Marc Savard
Celtics Paul Pierce
Patriots Tom Brady
Red Sox Josh Beckett, David Ortiz, Mike Lowell
Revolution Taylor Twellman
With Tom Brady of the Patriots taking the MVP award.
Special Outstanding Team Achievement Awards were presented to
both the Red Sox and the Patriots, for their outstanding seasons!
Stand up comedy by Tim Walkoe rounded out the evening, and all
net proceeds from the evening's silent auction benefited two worthy
local causes; Ty Warren's First and Goal Foundation and the Boston
Bruins Foundation.
The WBCN Red Carpet show will air on Comcast SportsNet: Jan.
26, 2008 at 8pm and again on Feb. 2nd at 8pm.
