The 6th annual Denver Sports Fans Choice Awards showcased the
2006-2007 sports season.
Sports legends, team accomplishments and memorable moments from
this years Denver sports scene were highlighted.
Special honors were presented to those athletes who go above
and beyond the call of duty by giving back to the community and
causes close to their hearts. These athletes who are strong role
models to our children, and who give unselfishly of themselves
to those in need, were honored with The Hometown Hero
award. This year's recipients included: Coach Dan Hawkins; Colorado
University, Domonique Foxworth; Broncos, Saul Patu; Crush, John
Gallant; Mammoth, Kenyon Martin; Nuggets, and from the Rockies:
Brad Hawpe.
Young up and coming players demonstrating skills and promising
futures were nominated for this years 2007 Rising Star Award.
The award, which was renamed the Darrent Williams Rising Star
award was presented to Paul Stastny of the Avs and Troy Tulowitzki
of the Rockies.
This year's Most Valuable Player award went to Rockies player,
Matt Holliday.
The Rockies were honored with the Outstanding Team Achievement
Award, and Ed McCaffrey was honored with this year's Lifetime
Achievement Award.
Stand up comedy by John Caponera rounded out the evening and
all net proceeds from the evening's silent auction once again
benefited the Gold Crown Foundation.
